Ghaziabad DME crash toll rises to 2 as 21-year-old dies

A 21-year-old man, Ashu, died on Friday from injuries sustained in a car crash on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Ghaziabad on August 13, police said. The accident, which occurred around 5am near Lal Kuan, had already claimed the life of UP Police sub-inspector Upendra Kumar, 59, who died at the scene. Ashu was travelling with his father Satyendra and police personnel from Aligarh when their rented car was allegedly hit by a truck.

The other injured passengers, head constable Narendra Kumar, 40, constable Ritik Kumar, 22, and driver Roshan Singh, 35, are reported stable. Ashu's father remains critical. An FIR against the truck driver was registered on Saturday under BNS sections 281, 125(b), and 106(1) at Kotwali police station. The driver fled, leaving the truck behind. Police have formed teams to trace him.
