The Schwan Laboratory for biomedical training and research has been inaugurated at GITAM School of Core Engineering in Visakhapatnam. P. Bharani Chandra Kumar, Director of GSCE, opened the facility on Monday in the presence of I. Sarat Babu, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, faculty, and students.

The laboratory offers biomedical instrumentation and training platforms for physiological signal acquisition, respiratory assessment, and biomechanical evaluation. Equipment includes BIOPAC systems for ECG, EEG, and EMG analysis, a Noraxon gait analysis platform, surgical diathermy units, a haemodialysis demonstration system, non-invasive ventilators, spirometers, syringe pumps, and defibrillator simulators.
The facility supports GITAM's B.Tech programme in Biomedical Engineering. GITAM said collaborations with medical and industry institutions will give students practical exposure to medical-device design, testing, clinical workflows, and research.
