Heavy rains trigger flash floods in Bhaderwah, landslide in Samba

Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms lashed Bhaderwah town in Doda district on Thursday evening, triggering flash floods that inundated the market area and caused waterlogging. A residential house roof collapsed in Thanala village, belonging to labourer Shabbir Ahmed Wani, whose family had a narrow escape. The gusty winds also disrupted electricity supply in parts of Bhaderwah, but the power development department restored lines promptly, officials said.

On Friday morning, heavy rains triggered a landslide on the Samba-Mansar road, a key route to Udhampur, leaving several passengers stranded. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which maintains the road, deployed men and machinery to clear debris from the affected stretch. The MeT department has forecast few spells of rain and thundershowers at many places, with heavy rain and brief intense showers in a few districts till July 19.
