Hyundai India CEO calls for exporting mobility platforms, not just cars

India should export mobility platforms, not just cars, Tarun Garg, managing director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, has said. Speaking to the Economic Times, he argued that the country has a mix of talent, a digitising economy, a renewable energy ecosystem, and a large startup base that gives it a unique opportunity to develop mobility solutions for emerging markets.

Garg's remarks come as Hyundai Motor India prepares for a potential initial public offering. The company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, sees India as a key export hub for small cars and future electric vehicles. The executive emphasised that simply assembling and shipping vehicles is no longer enough, India must build integrated mobility platforms that include software, services, and charging infrastructure tailored for other developing nations.
