India leads global coconut output with 31.24% share

India has retained its position as the world's largest coconut producer, accounting for 31.24% of global output. The country produced over 20.3 billion coconuts in 2024-25 across approximately 2.19 million hectares, with average productivity of 9,249 nuts per hectare. India accounts for 17.90% of the world's coconut cultivation area, indicating higher yield efficiency.

Kerala has the largest coconut-growing area at 754,000 hectares, producing about 5.15 billion nuts. Tamil Nadu is the leading producer by output, while Andhra Pradesh records the highest productivity. The government is encouraging processed goods such as virgin coconut oil, coconut milk and activated carbon to boost export value. Targets have been set for expanding coconut-related exports by 2030 and 2047.
