Gill, Gambhir criticised for defensive Galle Test tactics

Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has criticised captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir for their defensive approach in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. Times Now reports that Ganesh questioned the decision to continue batting on the third morning with two tailenders, especially with rain forecast for the remainder of the match. India were bowled out for 462 after adding just two runs overnight.

Ganesh also said India should have declared on day two once Dhruv Jurel was dismissed. India need seven wins from nine Tests to qualify for the World Test Championship final. Despite the criticism, India were in control by lunch on day three, reducing Sri Lanka to 99 for five after Mohammed Siraj, Manav Suthar, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja shared wickets.
