IndiGo to start flights to Navi Mumbai from Tamil Nadu on Dec 29

IndiGo will begin direct daily flights from Chennai and Coimbatore to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) on December 29, 2025. The Airbus A320 services, with 186 seats in economy class, will operate during the airport's first-phase hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. NMI is expected to have round-the-clock operations by February 2026.

An aviation source told The Hindu that Mumbai is operationally challenging due to high air traffic, and the new flights to NMI will offer passengers more choice. IndiGo currently operates nine flights daily from Chennai and three from Coimbatore to Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The airline will be the first to begin direct flights to NMI from Tamil Nadu.

Separately, the Times of India reported that NMI received its first dedicated international freighter service on December 28, with Hong Kong Air Cargo operating an A330-200F from Hong Kong carrying around 60 tonnes of cargo. The airport has added 13 new freighter services expected to start soon, including routes to Chengdu, Bangkok, Taipei, and Frankfurt.
