IndiGo to start flights from Tamil Nadu to Navi Mumbai from Dec 29

IndiGo will begin direct daily flights from Chennai and Coimbatore to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) from December 29, 2025, The Hindu reports. The 186-seat Airbus A320 services will operate during the airport's first-phase hours, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. NMI is expected to run round-the-clock by February 2026.

An aviation source told The Hindu that the new services offer passengers more choice in a sector where Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is operationally challenging due to high traffic. IndiGo already operates nine flights a day from Chennai and three from Coimbatore to the older Mumbai airport. The airline will be the first to connect Tamil Nadu to NMI, competing with Air India on the Mumbai route.

Flight 6E 898 will depart Chennai at 6.10 a.m., with the return flight 6E 899 leaving NMI at 7.40 p.m., targeting business travellers. The Coimbatore service, flight 6E 860, departs NMI at 9 a.m. and arrives at 10.45 a.m., with 6E 861 leaving Coimbatore at 11.15 a.m.
