Israeli Strikes Kill at Least 11 in Southern Lebanon

At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, the Lebanese health ministry said. Hindustan Times reports that seven people, including three children and two women, died in Ansar, while four were killed in Deir el-Zahrani, according to the National News Agency. Nineteen others were wounded.

The Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure and that civilians were among the casualties. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire after three Israeli soldiers were injured. Hezbollah said the attacks would be met with what they deserve.

Deccan Chronicle adds that Iran condemned the strikes, calling them an attack on Lebanese sovereignty. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the strikes sent a clear message ahead of US-sponsored negotiations. The US-brokered ceasefire framework, agreed in June, remains fragile with Israel refusing to withdraw until Hezbollah is disarmed.
