Jarange meets experts to plan Aug 29 Maratha stir

Activist Manoj Jarange Patil held a meeting on Sunday at his village Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district to finalise strategy for the Maratha reservation agitation planned for August 29. The meeting included experts and researchers who discussed legal aspects of the community's demands and the government's standard operating procedure.

Jarange said the government must acknowledge mistakes in existing resolutions and make amendments. The meeting covered the Hyderabad Gazetteer, concessions to Other Backward Classes, and difficulties in verifying blood and lineage records for Kunbi certificates. Participants suggested giving constitutional authority to village-level committees to accept recommendations. Jarange reiterated his determination to continue the agitation until demands are accepted. He has launched nine hunger strikes since August 2023 and ended a fast on May 30 after the government offered a 12-point proposal.
