Kanpur woman found dead, two lovers booked, DNA test planned

A 25-year-old woman was found dead in a mango orchard in Kanpur's Ghatampur area two days ago. A post-mortem revealed she was around seven months pregnant, but the cause of death has not been determined. The police have registered a case against two men, Golu Pandey, aged about 50, and Pranjal, aged about 28, based on a complaint from the woman's father, according to the police.

Aaj Tak reports that the woman had relationships with both men and had been asking them to take responsibility and marry her after learning she was pregnant. The police said both men allegedly avoided responsibility. The woman had been distressed and disappeared from home three days before her body was found. An autopsy could not ascertain the cause of death, so viscera samples have been preserved for further testing.

The police have taken both men into custody and are questioning them. DNA tests will be conducted on the fetus and compared with the suspects to determine the father. The police are investigating under relevant sections for abetment of suicide. The investigation is ongoing, awaiting DNA and viscera reports.
