Karnataka faces 30% rain deficit as dry spell continues

Karnataka's monsoon has weakened further, with no part of the state recording heavy rains in the last 24 hours and 30% of the state receiving no rainfall at all. Since the monsoon began, the state has received only 419 mm of rainfall, a 30% deficit compared to a normal year, reports Deccan Herald.

Hebri in Udupi district recorded the highest rainfall at 76 mm, followed by Hemmadi (71 mm) and Nadaplu (61 mm). Inflow to major reservoirs has also dropped, though the Tungabhadra reservoir saw the second-highest inflow among 14 major reservoirs, at 25,263 cusecs, with outflow at just 5,768 cusecs.

Cauvery basin reservoirs maintained steady flows of around 15,000 cusecs inflow and 14,690 cusecs outflow. The state's reservoirs currently hold 666.45 tmcft of water. Dakshina Kannada has completed 79.76% of paddy transplantation despite the rainfall deficit.
