Khalifa advance booking crosses Rs 4.2 crore worldwide before release
Prithviraj Sukumaran's action film Khalifa has collected Rs 4.2 crore in worldwide advance bookings ahead of its release tomorrow, according to trade analysts cited by Koimoi. The film, directed by Vysakh, is the first Onam release in Malayalam cinema. Of the total, Rs 2.65 crore comes from Kerala alone, with final Kerala pre-sales expected to cross Rs 3.5 crore. However, Koimoi reports that Khalifa's Kerala advance is 27.55% behind Prithviraj's last solo hit Aadujeevitham, which earned Rs 3.63 crore in advance sales in the state.
123telugu.com reports that in the Telugu states, the film has seen limited promotions and lukewarm advance bookings. The Telugu market will need strong word-of-mouth for the film to succeed. Khalifa features an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Krithi Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Malvika Sharma, and Indrans. Mohanlal plays Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, the grandfather of Prithviraj's character Aamir Ali. The film releases tomorrow in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.
Indian Opinion Analysis
Koimoi frames the story around box-office drama: it leads with Khalifa lagging behind Aadujeevitham and speculates on crossing a milestone, which injects a competitive narrative even though the film is not yet released. 123telugu takes a restrained, market-specific view, noting lukewarm Telugu bookings without hyping failure. A careful reader will note that both sources agree advance bookings crossed Rs 4 crore globally, a strong number for a non-franchise Malayalam film. The real test will be opening-day walk-ins and reviews, not pre-sale comparisons. Watch for the first-day India net figure, expected tomorrow.
