Kharge to address Congress workers in Goa on August 17

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Goa on Monday, August 17, to address party workers at Verna village in South Goa, state party chief Girish Chodankar said. The visit is Kharge’s first to the state since he took over as the Congress national president, Chodankar added.

The meeting comes as the Congress prepares for the Goa assembly election due early next year. In the 40-member House, the Congress has three MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao. The party had won 11 seats in the 2022 polls, but eight of its legislators later defected to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
