Kunal Ghosh attends both TMC I-Day events, downplays rift

Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh on Saturday attended Independence Day programmes of both the Mamata Banerjee-led faction and the rival Ritabrata Banerjee camp, sparking speculation about his political allegiance. Ghosh later said he remained firmly with Mamata Banerjee and used the occasion to attack the BJP.

At the rival camp's event, Ghosh demanded the expulsion of BJP MP Ananta Maharaj over remarks on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and criticised the central government's policies. Ritabrata faction spokesperson Kohinur Majumdar suggested Ghosh's visit could signal a future move, but Ghosh said he stopped only because the venue falls in his constituency. Senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya played down his presence, saying the camp welcomes anyone who wants to pay respects.
