Maharashtra FDA suspends Olympia Coffee House licence

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the food licence of Mumbai’s Olympia Coffee House after an inspection found serious hygiene violations. The Times of India reports that officials found a urinal in the food storage area, food handled on the floor, unclean water, cockroaches and flies, damaged chopping boards and inadequate protective clothing.

The FDA also acted against the Nair Hospital canteen and a Blinkit facility in Mumbai, though reports differ on the facility’s location and the wider number of establishments affected. LiveMint reports that 34 of Olympia’s 35 food handlers lacked mandatory training, while required water-testing and sanitation records were also missing. The action forms part of Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe’s intensified inspection drive. The FDA will decide on Olympia’s licence after shortcomings are corrected and a follow-up inspection confirms compliance.
