Mahua Moitra moves Supreme Court over Nadia circuit house eviction

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday moved the Supreme Court, alleging she was evicted from a circuit house in Nadia, West Bengal, late at night despite a high court protective order. Her counsel told a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant that the eviction by district officials at 11 pm was an attack on federalism requiring an independent investigation. The CJI said the court would look into a request for early listing.

Moitra was staying at the Krishnanagar circuit house, her official constituency accommodation, for an overnight visit after a Parliament session. She claimed she was allotted the room at 6.30 pm but received a call at 9.47 pm asking her to vacate. In a social media post, she said a large crowd gathered outside the gates chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' after she refused to leave. Hindustan Times and Times of India carry her crowd claim, The Hindu omits it. The district administration has not publicly commented.
