Malkajgiri civic body collects 2.5 tons of sacred waste

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has collected 2.5 tons of sacred waste under the Udavasana programme in July. The drive covered Uppal, LB Nagar and Malkajgiri zones. The waste, including deity photo frames, is dismantled, segregated and sent to recyclers.

MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy said the process ensures sacred waste does not end up in landfills or water bodies. The programme was announced on July 23 and launched on July 25 for safe disposal of old and damaged deity images. Citizens can leave such items at their nearest temple if they cannot reach collection points.
