Mumbai Police arrest Bangladeshi woman for illegal re-entry month after deportation

Mumbai Police have arrested a 27-year-old Bangladeshi woman, identified as Nadira Sultana, for allegedly re-entering India illegally and living in the city without valid documents just a month after being deported. The case came to light on Saturday after police received a tip about a suspicious woman near Girgaum Chowpatty.

During questioning, Sultana could not give clear details about her identity. Police found she did not possess valid stay documents and had been deported from India in July 2026. She is suspected to have returned through an illegal route and then reached Mumbai. Police are investigating how she re-entered and whether she had help. Her phone and travel records are being examined.

A case has been filed under relevant laws. Sultana is in police custody and further legal proceedings will follow based on the investigation, a Gamdevi police official said.
