Mumbai Worker Dies in 14th-Floor Fall, FIR Against Company Owners

Vikhroli police have registered an FIR against Reliable Corporation Pvt Ltd owners Fazal Shaikh and Shakir Shaikh, labour contractor Sakim, site engineer Prasanna and others for negligence after 38-year-old worker Bikas Let fell from the 14th floor of an under-construction building in Vikhroli East on August 12. The FIR, filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106(1) and 3(5), alleges failure to provide adequate safety measures.

Let, a mason, went missing after working on the lift duct around 12.30 pm. When his family contacted contractor Sakim, his son said Let might be working overtime. The next morning, Let's relative found him floating in a water tank behind the building. Police said the lift duct had no safety net and the worker was not given a safety belt or helmet. He was declared dead before admission at Rajawadi Hospital. Investigation is ongoing.
