Worker dies in Vikhroli fall, Mumbai police file FIR

Mumbai police have registered an FIR against the owners of Reliable Corporation Pvt Ltd, labour contractor Sakim, site engineer Prasanna and others after a 38-year-old worker died in a fall at an under-construction building in Vikhroli East. The Freepress Journal reports that Bikas Let had been polishing cement on the 14th floor inside a lift duct on August 12. The lift duct lacked a safety net or protective equipment, and Let had not been given a safety belt or helmet.

Let was found floating in a water tank behind the building the next morning after he failed to return home. A case was registered under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Times of India separately reports a second incident in Panvel taluka's Arivali village, where an 18-year-old worker, Manishkumar Yadav, died after falling into an operational RMC plant machine. An FIR was filed against Krushna Kala Developers and plant operators.

In both cases, investigators said workers were not provided safety gear. Further investigation is underway.
