Nagaon bypoll set for multi-cornered contest, BJP expects tough fight

The Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is shaping up as a multi-cornered battle, with Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia acknowledging the contest will be 'tough and challenging'. He said the party will 'go all out' to win, citing development work and the BJP's presence at both the Centre and state as factors in its favour.

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi expressed confidence of victory, dismissing the AIUDF's role as the 'B-team of the BJP'. The AIUDF has named Rejaul Karim Sarkar as its candidate and ruled out an alliance with the Congress, while the Raijor Dal is yet to decide on contesting. The BJP has set an internal target of a 90,000-vote lead from the constituency.

The Election Commission has not yet announced the bypoll dates. Congress said it will finalise its strategy after the notification.
