UGC-NET 2026: NTA cancels three subject exams over errors

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the UGC-NET June 2026 exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology after an expert committee found factual, typing, translation, and grammatical errors in the question papers. The re-exam will be held on September 9 and 10, with no additional fee for candidates. Results for the remaining 84 subjects will be announced as per the original schedule.

According to aajtak.in, the committee concluded that the errors, which included incorrect names of scholars and unclear book topics, could not be fixed through a challenge process. Candidates for the Bombay High Court clerk typing exam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar also protested, alleging technical glitches and server failures. The high court administration has acknowledged the complaints and said an investigation is underway.

Congress leader Pawan Khera and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticised the NTA and the central government over the repeated exam failures. The NTA has said the re-exam will not delay JRF allocation, assistant professor eligibility, or PhD admissions. Eligible candidates for assistant professor will be 6% of those appearing in either the original or re-test, whichever is higher.
