PIB Fact Check says Modi gold scheme video is deepfake

A viral video claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a free 1-tola gold scheme for Aadhaar card holders on Independence Day is fake, according to the PIB Fact Check unit. The agency said on X that the video had been digitally altered and no such announcement was made by PM Modi or the government.

The video was shared by an Instagram handle named 'indiamobileyojna' and used a deepfake version of PM Modi's speech to appear authentic. PIB Fact Check cautioned citizens not to fall for the misleading claim and advised them to verify government schemes through the official website 'MyScheme'.
