Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD led to shelving of Shahid Kapoor’s Ashwatthama

Shahid Kapoor's mythological action film Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues has been shelved. Producer Jackky Bhagnani said that Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD, which featured Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama in a major sci-fi setting, influenced the decision. The team felt the concept was no longer fresh enough for a big-budget project.

The film was announced in 2024 and was to be directed by Sachin Ravi. Bhagnani confirmed that he and Shahid remain close friends and are still looking for a suitable project to collaborate on, but no new film has been announced yet.
