Practical Magic 2 eyes $30-40 million North America opening

Koimoi.com reports that Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the 1998 cult film, is tracking for a domestic opening weekend of between $30 million and $40 million in North America. That would be a franchise-best debut, far exceeding the original film's $13.1 million opening. The film arrives 28 years later and stars returning leads Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, with new cast members including Joey King and Maisie Williams.

The same outlet notes that to outperform Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which earned $452 million worldwide in 2024, Practical Magic 2 would need a global haul above that figure. The original Practical Magic was a box-office failure on release but became a cult favourite over time. The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier and based on Alice Hoffman's novel The Book of Magic.

Practical Magic 2 is set for release on September 11.
