Pune court remands drug kingpin Basoya to NCB custody till August 21

A Pune court on Sunday remanded alleged drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya, recently extradited from the UAE, to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) custody until August 21. Basoya was produced before the court under heavy police security after a Delhi court granted the NCB a three-day transit remand on Friday.

The prosecution told the court that Basoya's name surfaced in several drug cases and that around 9,000 kg of mephedrone had been seized in NCB and police operations. Basoya's lawyer sought only four days of custody. The court ordered six days of NCB custody.

Basoya, against whom an Interpol Red Notice was issued in November 2025, is the alleged mastermind of a syndicate that smuggled mephedrone from India. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called his return from the UAE a 'new milestone' in the zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
