Tennis veteran Roberto Bautista Agut made a stunning football debut, scoring twice for Spanish seventh-tier side CD Els Ibarsos in a 4-2 pre-season win. The 38-year-old retired from tennis just months ago after a career that included 12 singles titles and a Davis Cup triumph for Spain in 2019.

Bautista Agut, who reached a world ranking of ninth in 2019 and a Wimbledon semifinal where he lost to Novak Djokovic, played for Villarreal's youth teams until age 14 before switching to tennis. His return to football has delighted the club, which posted on Instagram: "It's official: Roberto Bautista Agut is a C.D. Els Ibarsos player."

The Spaniard said on Instagram: "It's a new stage of life that's making me very happy." With his debut behind him, the club is looking forward to seeing him play for a full season.
