Sangareddy Collector asks photojournalists to focus on social issues
Sangareddy Collector Prateek Jain urged photojournalists to capture moments useful to society apart from highlighting public issues. He made the remarks on Saturday while felicitating district news photographers at the collectorate to mark World Photography Day.
Jain said readers often prioritise news based on the photographs accompanying them. He noted that new technology in photography has posed challenges for lensmen, but appreciated their role in bringing public issues to the notice of officers and elected representatives.
The Collector and Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj also viewed a photo exhibition organised along the corridors of the collectorate on the occasion.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The event is a standard district-level recognition of local media, not a policy announcement. Photojournalists in smaller towns often double as stringers for multiple newspapers, and such felicitations help maintain a working relationship with the administration. The key takeaway is the collector's emphasis on social documentation over mere event coverage, which signals a shift in what the district expects from visual reporting. The next World Photography Day will see whether this translates into more official access for photojournalists covering civic issues.
