Satirical ‘Dimagi Naxal’ accounts erupt online after PM Modi remark

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the term "dimagi Naxal" in his Independence Day address, a satirical social media movement under the same name has emerged. An Instagram account called 'Dimagi Naxal Party' has gained over 1,81,000 followers in a day, while a related X account, 'Dimagi Naxal Janta Party' (@DNJP_India), has over 7,000 followers. Both accounts carry the motto "Think | Research | Resist" and claim to follow the ideology of Bhagat Singh.

News outlet ABP Live reports that the X account, created in August 2026, follows 13 accounts including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, comedian Kunal Kamra and actor Prakash Raj. The account has retweeted a message from Prakash Raj that says, "Dimagi bano.. Bewakoof nahi. Sawaal karo.. Gulami nahi."

The Hindustan Times reports that the party's Instagram account has alleged cyberattacks. The PM's remark drew sharp Opposition criticism, with Congress's Jairam Ramesh calling it a "sure sign of desperation" and P Chidambaram saying, "I am proud to be a dimagi naxal." Union minister Kiren Rijiju has clarified that Modi did not refer to opposition leaders as dimagi naxals, saying the term applies to those who support Maoists, reject the Constitution or want to separate the Northeast.
