Seven dead in West Bengal hotel fire at Birbhum’s Tarapith

At least seven people were killed and several others injured in a fire at Hotel Bidishini in Tarapith, Birbhum district, early on Monday morning. The blaze started around 4:30-5 am on the ground floor of the four-storey hotel, where most guests were asleep.

Fire tenders brought the flames under control after a rescue operation. The injured were taken to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital. Hotel officials told The Federal that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. NDTV Profit reported that the death toll initially stood at five, before police revised it to six or seven.

The hotel is located near a pond and close to Tarapith Police Station. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
