Sivasagar flood damage survey 85% done, 42,500 houses hit

The Sivasagar district administration has completed around 85 per cent of the rapid damage assessment survey after the devastating floods on July 19. A total of 574 surveyors deployed since August 9 have identified about 42,500 affected houses so far. The assessment also covers damage to handlooms, livestock and poultry. The survey will run through August 30. Families missed by enumerators have been told to contact local survey teams, panchayat presidents or ward members before the deadline.

Distribution of the state government's Rs 15,000 financial assistance is nearly complete. As of August 17, relief funds had been credited directly to the bank accounts of 58,795 beneficiaries. Transfers for over 7,500 recipients failed initially due to incorrect account numbers, IFSC codes or other mismatched details. Corrected data was resubmitted to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority on August 19, and these beneficiaries are expected to receive funds within the week.

A list of 6,000 flood-affected individuals who applied directly at the district commissioner's office has been forwarded to ASDMA for approval. All incoming data undergoes multi-tier verification by ASDMA, the state finance department and the Reserve Bank of India before fund transfers. Remaining applications at the Sivasagar DC office are being digitised and verified before eligible candidates are recommended to the state authority for final payout.
