Six dead, five children, in three UP drowning incidents

Six people, including five minors, drowned in three separate bathing incidents in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria, Maharajganj and Jhansi districts on Sunday, police said. In Deoria, two boys died after drowning in a pit in Balesar Mathia village. Villagers pulled them out but they could not be saved, and the families refused a post-mortem.

In Maharajganj, a youth and a teenager drowned in the Rohin River near Rohin Barrage. Police and divers recovered both bodies. In Jhansi, two minor girls, aged nine and eight, drowned in a pond in Kanja Chitawan village while grazing goats. They were declared dead at a hospital.

Police in all three districts have carried out legal formalities and are investigating the incidents.
