In a separate incident, a 50-year-old woman was trampled to death by a herd of eight to 10 elephants at Barki Pauna village in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, the New Indian Express reports. Bhanu Devi was working in the fields when the herd, part of a larger group of around 40 elephants that had been roaming the area, entered the village. A man and a woman were also injured.

More than 335 people have been killed in elephant attacks in Chhattisgarh over the last five years. Forest departments in both states are monitoring elephant movements and warning residents.
