Gandhari trailer out, Taapsee Pannu plays blind mother hunting for daughter

Netflix has released the trailer of Gandhari, an action-thriller starring Taapsee Pannu as Bani, a visually impaired mother whose daughter is abducted. The film, written and produced by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Devashish Makhija, is set in the fictional town of Joypurra. Taapsee said she worked with a visually impaired person to understand the character's body language, and that the action in the film is driven by emotion, not martial arts. The Free Press Journal reports that Kanika Dhillon said motherhood inspired the story, recalling her own fear after her son's birth.

The trailer introduces the Behrupiyas, a group tied to the town's cultural identity. Ishwak Singh plays Gokul, another parent searching for his missing daughter. Jatin Sarna plays Kabir, the investigating officer. Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Chhaya Kadam are also in the cast. The film streams on Netflix from September 3.
