Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson celebrate 38th wedding anniversary

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, one of Hollywood's most enduring couples, celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on April 30. The actors first met on the set of the TV show 'Bosom Buddies' in 1981 and later reunited on the film 'Volunteers' in 1985, where they played lovers. Hanks has said their connection was immediate and undeniable.

Before marrying Wilson, Hanks was married to childhood sweetheart Samantha Lewes from 1978 until their divorce in 1987. Lewes died of cancer in 2002. Hanks and Wilson have two sons: Chet Hanks, born in 1990, and Truman Theodore Hanks, born in 1995. Wilson underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction in 2015 after a breast cancer diagnosis, and has praised Hanks for his care during her illness.

The couple have also become grandparents. Their eldest son Colin Hanks, from Hanks' first marriage, has two children. When asked about their grandparenting skills, Colin joked that they could improve on enforcing bedtime and cooking kid-friendly food.
