Two die, two missing as car plunges into canal in West Godavari

Two youths died and two others remain missing after a car carrying five people plunged into the Narsapuram canal near Itempudi in West Godavari district late Saturday night, police said. The vehicle lost control in heavy rain. One occupant survived by holding on to a tree and being rescued by locals. Firefighters and divers recovered the bodies of Pothula Lakshmi Bhanu (18) and D. Nagi Reddy (18) on Sunday. The missing are Rajaram (17) and Sai Surya (19). The group was returning from a wedding in Peravali village to Mori village in East Godavari.

In a separate incident, a youth drowned in the Nagarjuna Sagar backwaters in Nalgonda district of Telangana. Durga Tirumallesh was swept away in the Krishna River while swimming with friends on a pleasure trip. Local authorities recovered his body after a two-hour search. Police investigations into both accidents are ongoing, and searches for the two missing persons in West Godavari continue.
