West Bengal government orders vacancy report by June 3

The West Bengal government has launched a major exercise to fill long-pending vacancies across state departments. Nabanna has directed all departments to submit a detailed Vacancy Status Report to the Finance Department by June 3, covering all vacant posts as of May 1. The notification has been sent to all additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and departmental secretaries, who must submit the report digitally in a prescribed Excel format with separate sheets for main offices, directorates and regional offices.

The government has described the exercise as very urgent and important, noting that prolonged vacancies have affected administrative functioning. Departments seeking to fill posts through direct recruitment must provide proper justification, and incomplete submissions will not be accepted. Soft copies must be sent from official email IDs to two designated Finance Department addresses. Administrative circles believe the move aims to address staff shortages while creating employment opportunities across the state.
