Women face rape threats, doxxing after Jantar Mantar protest

Women who participated in the July 25 Jantar Mantar protest are facing online harassment, including doxxing, rape threats, and the circulation of personal information, The Hindu reports. Shradha Singh, a 23-year-old M.Sc. student with 3.78 lakh Instagram followers, posted a seven-second reel showing RAF personnel in the background with a Harpic ad jingle. She deleted it within an hour after it crossed a million views and posted two apology videos, but says she continues to receive rape and death threats.

Other women have been targeted similarly. One protester was declared 'most wanted' in posts that sought her whereabouts, by Thursday, her name, city, and a copy of an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were circulating online. Singh alleges some accounts refused to take down her video, saying they had been paid to post it. She said her phone number and address were found through her bike registration number, and that she has lost clients. A 22-year-old protester said her photos were included in a collage seeking the arrest of 12 women accused of 'abusing' Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
