Worker dies as segment slips at NHAI expressway site in Samba

A worker was killed at the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway construction site in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on Tuesday when a segment slipped from a launching machine. The National Highways Authority of India clarified that this was not a bridge collapse but an incident during construction of the 11th span of the elevated highway. NHAI said an expert team was being sent to examine the incident and that the worker's family would be compensated as per norms.

Times of India reports that two workers died in separate accidents at NHAI sites in J&K on Tuesday. It identified the deceased at the Samba site as Gotam Sahu, 25, from Bihar, and said a concrete structure collapsed on him. The report added that another worker was injured, and Sahu's wife received Rs 5 lakh from the contractor, Rs 5 lakh from the state administration, with another Rs 5 lakh to follow. In a separate incident, Budhi Singh, 45, from Ramban, died after falling from a height at a bridge construction site in Jammu.
