Gujarat runs 6,868 medical camps and 18,000 surveillance teams after floods

Gujarat's health department said it ran 6,868 medical camps and deployed more than 18,000 surveillance teams in flood-affected districts after heavy rain on 1 August triggered flooding in Surat, Navsari and neighbouring areas, prompting the evacuation of about 27,000 people and the rescue of 53 others. More than 1.74 lakh people were examined or treated at the camps, while teams making daily door-to-door visits distributed over 1.05 crore chlorine tablets and 10.29 lakh ORS packets. The state's Monsoon Action Plan covered all 34 districts and eight municipal corporations. Health authorities shifted 675 pregnant women to healthcare facilities in advance, where 272 deliveries were carried out, and officials said preventive medicine against leptospirosis reached more than 7.61 lakh high-risk residents across 562 villages in Surat, Tapi, Valsad and Navsari. Round-the-clock health control rooms were established in all districts and municipal corporations, each district received five additional emergency medical teams, and 1,496 ambulances under the 108 Emergency Service and 816 attached to health centres were kept on standby.
