8-year-old killed as school canopy collapses in Sambhal

An eight-year-old boy was killed and two students injured when a canopy at the entrance of Al Hasnain Public School in Madala village, Sambhal, collapsed during an Independence Day celebration on Saturday. CCTV footage shows children climbing onto the structure before it gave way. The deceased, Nizamuddin, had gone to the school carrying a flag to watch the programme. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. The injured students, Saif Ali and Shaidana, were referred to a higher medical centre.

District Magistrate Ankit Khandelwal and Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi inspected the site and met the victim's family, assuring full assistance. Preliminary findings attribute the collapse to the extra weight of children on the canopy. An inquiry has been initiated. The family has for now declined to press charges, but authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
