BJP deploys out-of-state leaders for Rajasthan local polls

The BJP has deployed senior leaders from outside Rajasthan to oversee urban local body polls, a first in party history. Party president Nitin Nabin appointed former Uttar Pradesh MP Harish Dwivedi as election in-charge, with Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Delhi Minister Ravindra Indrajit Singh as co-in-charges.

The Bhajanlal Sharma government has completed over half its tenure and faces potential anti-incumbency, along with party infighting. Urban local body elections must be completed by September 20 and panchayat polls by November 15, per the Rajasthan High Court. The BJP chose to hold urban polls first, believing it has stronger urban support to build momentum for the rural polls where the Congress traditionally does better.
