ABVP and NSUI clash at EFLU, counter FIRs filed

A clash between Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) at the English and Foreign Languages University campus in Hyderabad early on August 14 left several students injured. Osmania University police have registered a case and a counter-case against both student groups.

The Hindu reports the fight began around 4 a.m. in Basheer Hostel after a verbal duel escalated. Siasat.com adds that the preceding day ABVP members held a protest at a women's hostel over room-sharing issues, and NSUI members alleged they were manhandled and faced casteist slurs. When NSUI approached police, Deputy Proctor Upender Gundala allegedly told police not to register their complaint.

Siasat.com says NSUI alleges ABVP members later attacked NSUI students with rods and beer bottles, causing head and body injuries, and damaging belongings. ABVP has filed a counter-complaint, saying NSUI members entered their hostel rooms and assaulted them around 3 a.m. Both groups have demanded an investigation. Cases have been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
