Akbaruddin Owaisi submits Waqf land encroachment plea to CM

AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, detailing the extent of encroachment on Waqf land and suggesting remedial measures. The first Waqf survey identified 33,929 institutions covering 77,538.61 acres, of which 57,423.91 acres, or 74.06 per cent, were reported as under encroachment, according to the representation.

Owaisi proposed reconciling the Waqf Board's property schedules with the prohibited-property list under Section 22-A of the Registration Act to prevent further illegal registrations. He also sought completion of the second Waqf survey, ordered in 2001, which identified 13,610 additional institutions on 3,072 acres. The representation urged a pause on auctions of Raidurg land claimed by Jamia Nizamia and sought settlement of Rs 350 crore in compensation dues from the GHMC for 44 acquired Waqf properties.

Owaisi asked the government to fix departmental responsibilities with deadlines for implementing protective measures, including institution-wise verification of encroachments within 60 days. The state government has not yet responded to the requests.
