Anurag Jain takes over as NITI Aayog CEO

Senior IAS officer Anurag Jain on Monday took charge as the chief executive officer of NITI Aayog, succeeding B.V.R. Subrahmanyam. A 1989-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jain was previously secretary of the road transport and highways ministry and former chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh. His appointment has been approved for a two-year term.

Livemint reports that Jain’s appointment is expected to strengthen coordination between the Centre and states. The Centre reconstituted NITI Aayog in April, appointing Ashok Kumar Lahiri as vice-chairman. Other full-time members include economist K.V. Raju, AIIMS director M. Srinivas, and IISER Bhopal director Gobardhan Das.
