As CJI looks on, SCBA chief seeks inquiry into student lathi-charge

SCBA President Vikas Singh on Wednesday called for a judicial inquiry into the lathi-charge on student protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demonstrations, speaking at the Supreme Court Bar Association's Independence Day event with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant present on the dais.

Singh linked the protests to the NEET question paper leak, saying "something is wrong in the system" when students are forced onto the streets. He urged the CJI to order a judicial inquiry into the police action, stating: "I think the CJI will go a long way by ordering a judicial enquiry into the lathi-charge."

The SCBA president also criticised the broader exam system, citing large-scale question paper leaks and unfair admissions. His remarks come amid ongoing Supreme Court hearings on the NEET irregularities.
