Asian Games athletics camp from August 16, Bhubaneswar meet on 22

The Asian Games-bound Indian athletics team will start a final preparatory camp in Bhubaneswar from August 16, featuring the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet on August 22, Sportstar reports. After the Bhubaneswar stint, the squad will compete in the Indian Athletics Final Series in New Delhi on September 10 before departing for Japan.

The Hindu adds that the team will also undergo an acclimatisation camp at the University of Tsukuba near Tokyo, following an MoU between SAI and the university. Top athletes including Murali Sreeshankar, Jyothi Yarraji, Ancy Sojan, and Kishore Jena are set to take part in the Bhubaneswar meet. Neeraj Chopra will not be present, as he competes at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21.

Meanwhile, Sportstar notes that national record-holder Tejas Shirse is out of competition after suffering two stress fractures in his left foot. He does not require surgery but faces about six months of rehabilitation in Mumbai. The Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
