Big stars shift to period films to escape modern action fatigue

Several top Telugu film heroes are now signing period films, moving away from the modern action dramas that dominated their recent releases. Projects like NBK111, Toxic, Fauzi, and Ranabaali are all set in different historical eras, a shift that is drawing attention across the industry.

Filmmakers see period settings as a way to refresh a star's image without changing the actor himself. The costumes, sets, and locations create instant visual appeal that can drive hype even before the story is known, which is especially valuable for big-budget films aiming at multiple markets.

However, if too many stars adopt this strategy, the period setting itself could become a formula. The era can generate curiosity, but it cannot sustain a weak story. The film still has to deliver on narrative, leaving the real challenge in the hands of writers and directors.
