BJP lone MLA in Tamil Nadu Assembly opposes TVK government on NEET, FCRA

M Bhojarajan, the Bharatiya Janata Party's only MLA in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, has emerged as the solitary voice opposing several key resolutions of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's TVK government during the current session. The 79-year-old from Udhagamandalam has opposed resolutions seeking scrapping of NEET, withdrawal of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, and the proposed delimitation exercise.

While the principal opposition parties, AIADMK (47 MLAs) and DMK (59), backed the TVK government on some of these contentious resolutions, Bhojarajan chose to stand apart. He argued that NEET creates opportunities for Tamil Nadu students, and that the state should strengthen coaching facilities instead of demanding abolition. He walked out of the House after the resolution was passed with broad support from both ruling and opposition parties. On the FCRA amendment, he defended the Centre's stand on preventing misuse.

Bhojarajan, a former Congressman who joined the BJP around 2014, won his seat in 2026 by a thin margin of 976 votes. He is the only BJP MLA in Tamil Nadu after the party was reduced from four seats in the outgoing House. The delimitation resolution, which seeks to freeze the current Lok Sabha seat allocation, is also opposed by Bhojarajan, with a political debate expected to continue.
