Man attacked with iron rod in Karnataka, accused arrested

A man was brutally assaulted with an iron rod on a road in Karnataka's Shivamogga district on August 17, 2026. The victim, identified as Manjunath, was repeatedly struck and stomped on the head by the accused, Raghavendra alias Apple Raghu, near Avuka Circle in Hosanagara taluk. A 1-minute 26-second video of the attack went viral, showing Raghu dragging the bleeding victim along the road.

India Today reports that Raghavendra allegedly attacked Manjunath under the influence of alcohol. Police have arrested Raghavendra and registered a case. Times of India quotes Shivamogga SP B Nikhil saying the motive is being investigated and it is not yet known if there was a prior dispute between the two. Manjunath is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Shivamogga with serious injuries to his legs and body.
