CBI files closure report in Bhiwani teacher death, calls it suicide

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the death of 19-year-old private school teacher Manisha from Bhiwani, concluding she died by suicide. The report, submitted to the special CBI court in Panchkula, states that Manisha consumed insecticide she had purchased from a local shop, and presents evidence including the sale receipt and findings of a multispecialty medical board. The CBI also cited a psychological assessment confirming depression after she failed to gain admission to a nursing course.

The case drew public attention when Manisha's body was found on August 13, 2025, a day after an FIR was lodged. Three post-mortems were conducted at Bhiwani, PGI Rohtak, and AIIMS Delhi. After protests, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini ordered a CBI probe on August 20, 2025. The Haryana Police had earlier also ruled the death a suicide, which had sparked protests.

The victim’s father has dismissed the CBI’s report, saying he will contest it when the case next comes up for hearing on August 27. No arrests have been made in the case. Meanwhile, in a separate case, the CBI filed a 636-page chargesheet in the death of 33-year-old actor Twisha Sharma in Bhopal, also concluded as suicide by a second post-mortem, with her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh arrested.
